White Models for Design Presentations

Model of the Siemens Head Quarters, Abu Dhabi

The architect for the Siemens Head Quarters model build wanted a very clean white model to show the scheme’s intended design. We were given a good budget and enough time to produce a very high-standard model. Time and budget always play a factor in the quality of the model build. Time is always required to perfect the details of the model.

The façade detail to the front elevation is not only a strong design feature but is shaped uniquely to give maximum shade to the interior as the sun moves across the sky. The architect wanted this feature detailed, like the build with the correct panel thickness. At this scale, the only option was to acid etch the façade panels from thin brass using our industry-leading supplier in London, allowing for much finer detail and thickness’ at the model scale. Each panel was etched in sets of 4 and carefully bent twice to mimic the design. Each set of 4 panels was carefully fixed to an acrylic and brass subframe and sprayed white.
